Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Health Data Specialist 1. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for conducting medical chart abstracts and potentially case interviews with mothers who have recent given birth to a baby who was diagnosed with congenital syphilis. The successful candidate will review delivery medical records for the baby and mother, the mother's prenatal care and other sources of information to inform the larger group as to missed opportunities to prevent congenital syphilis in the future. A successful candidate will work with birth hospitals throughout New Jersey and the Rutgers Francois-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center. Works under general supervision within the New Jersey Department of Health, Division of HIV, STD and TB Services, STD Services Unit.

Job Responsibilities:
* Review potential cases reported to the Department or potential cases identified through data integration between reported STD cases and birth certificate matches.
* Review medical records from birth and prenatal care (if available) and complete standardized questionaries' used on all cases.
* Interview the birth mother and complete standard interview tool.
* Participate in review board with other medical professional and team members to identify areas for improvement to reduce congenital syphilis transmission.
* Participate in special projects and performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor's degree in life sciences, allied health or equivalent in a related discipline and 0-1 years experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in conducting health related interviews and medical chart abstractions may substitute education, if the applicants has more than 4 years of experience. Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills. Must be able to work under the direction of supervision. Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook. Familiar with Internet applications. Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems. Time management skills and ability to work well under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of basic medical terminology is preferred.
Prior experience working with COVID-19 case investigation or contact tracing.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
