Pharmacist – Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) Clinic
Requirements-
Mandatory
- Active Virginia pharmacist license (copy required)
- Current DEA Certification
- Availability to work 10 to 15 hours per week on-site (TENATIVE)
- Availability for telephone consultation with program staff during off-site hours (noted as infrequent)
- Agreement to comply with all DBHS program policies and federal/state regulations governing methadone treatment
- Acceptance of responsibility for methadone use in consumer treatment
Preferred
- Familiarity with federal CSAT Guidelines and DBHDS licensure regulations
- Experience providing pharmaceutical services to individuals with substance use disorders
- Knowledge of the MethaSoft dispensing system for methadone dosage management and monthly reconciliation
Duties
- Manufacture unit dosages of methadone and prepare Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) doses for dispensing
- Prepare take-home dosages for eligible consumers twice weekly or as needed; store in dispensing room safe
- Order, receive, and store bulk medications (methadone and Suboxone); maintain pharmacy inventory documentation
- Conduct and document monthly inventory reconciliations for both methadone and Suboxone, reconciling pharmacy and dispensing room stock
- Conduct biennial inventory of all controlled substance stocks on hand
- Maintain related documentation in compliance with federal CSAT Guidelines and DBHDS regulations; ensure all records are readily retrievable for DEA inspection
- Consult with clinical and nursing staff on pharmacological issues
- Communicate with the DEA and Board of Pharmacy as necessary
- Serve as point of notification in the event of medication errors, inventory discrepancies, or diversion concerns
- Meet regularly with MOUD Clinic medical staff on-site — approximately 5 to 10 hours per week
- Provide telephone consultation with program staff in emergency situations (as needed, infrequent)
