Duties
- Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments, including patient history, mental status examinations, and diagnostic evaluations using EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems.
- Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating psychopharmacology, therapy options, and behavioral health interventions aligned with best practices.
- Prescribe and manage medications such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, and other psychotropic agents following HIPAA guidelines and clinical protocols.
- Collaborate with primary care providers, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate holistic patient care.
- Provide telehealth consultations to expand access to mental health services across diverse settings.
- Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, medication adherence, lifestyle modifications, and coping strategies.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with legal standards such as ICD-10 coding and CPT coding for billing purposes.
Skills
- Proven experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or eClinicalWorks; familiarity with Athenahealth is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology principles and medication management techniques.
- Ability to perform comprehensive physical examinations and mental health assessments efficiently.
- Experience working with diverse populations including children, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those in assisted living or hospice settings.
- Skilled in crisis intervention techniques such as triage and acute pain management in emergency or urgent care environments.
- Familiarity with medical procedures like venipuncture, IV infusion, suturing, spinal tap procedures, and sterile processing techniques.
- Knowledge of relevant healthcare laws including Workers' Compensation law and HIPAA compliance standards.
- Excellent communication skills for patient education, case management, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Ability to adapt quickly to different clinical environments such as hospital medicine units (ICU experience preferred), outpatient clinics, or inpatient psychiatric units.
