ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT OF WORK:
Accountable for providing general medical care. Works under the general supervision of a licensed physician. May lead/supervise direct care staff as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Provides a broad range of general health care services, relieving the physician for more complex assignments; takes medical histories; performs routine physical examinations; documents findings and notifies attending physician of significant problems; evaluates results of tests such as blood, urine x-rays and cultures; makes medical rounds to observe and record pertinent progress of hospitalized clients; makes provisional medical diagnoses to be reviewed by a physician; orders referrals to specialists; responds to emergency situations; offers therapeutic suggestions to physicians upon request; may instruct and counsel clients in preventive care, diet and use of prescribed treatments; may perform minor surgical procedures; may order routine tests; may administer certain prescribed medications; may serve on hospital committees; performs related duties as required.
Knowledge of principles and practices of general medicine, medication and minor surgery; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; skill in physical diagnosis and taking medical histories.Candiates must possess and maintain a license as a Physician Assistant issued by the Connecticut State Department of Health Services in accordance with the applicable Connecticut General Statutes.Candidates may be required to travel.
