Position Summary
The Real Estate Appraiser will play a critical role in coordinating with the Buyouts and Acquisitions Programs to ensure
that Appraisal documents are complete and accurate.
The Buyout & Acquisition Program purchases storm damaged homes, giving homeowners the opportunity to move from
harm's way. Properties located in select high-flood-risk areas are transformed into natural coastal buffers and, in
moderate-flood-risk areas, are sold for redevelopment. The Real Estate Appraiser will work closely with program senior
level and State staff in regard to single-family and two-family home appraisal review reports.

Real Estate Appraiser (Part-Time)

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Complete desktop reviews of various home appraisal review reports, including Fair Market Value (FMV) forensic appraisals pre-dating the storm event (Hurricane Irene, Lee or Sandy), FMV current appraisals and FMV conservation easement appraisals.
• Ensure that quality and quantity guidelines are met and that the conclusions reached in the final report are accurate and/or appropriate.
• Certify that the appraisals are complete and accurate.
• Consistently maintain the highest level of ethics, integrity, and confidentiality.
• Ability to reason, judge, compare, calculate, evaluate, and critique information such as written materials, numerical data, Program needs and/or other work related activities.
• Briefing GOSR senior and executive staff on project and program status as necessary in a prompt and professional manner.

Qualifications
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in completing residential real estate appraisals.
• Hold a NYS Certified Residential or Certified General Appraiser license that is in good standing.
• Be Compliant with Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) training requirements. (Ex: 7-
Hour National USPAP Update Course (or its equivalent) once every two calendar years.)
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the desire to work both collaboratively and independently.
• Proven research and analysis skills.
• Strong computer skills: Internet-research experience and knowledge of Word and Excel.
