Tittle -Safety Engineer Senior- Motive Power and Equipment Specialist
PART TIME 20 hours/week between 7 pm-7 am; some weekends; cover two shifts per week,Lunch-30 minutes

Knowledge, skills, education, and/or experience
Requires a high school diploma;
2. Minimum of eight (8) years in Class 1 Track;
3. Minimum of five (5) years with writing narrative reports that describe mechanical issues related to non-compliance or safety concerns;
4. Minimum of three (3) years with presenting information related to mechanical issues to federal, State, local government, or industry officials; and
5. Minimum of three (3) years interacting with various levels of railroad industry including superintendents, shop managers, mechanics and union officials.
MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)

Mandatory skills/certification(s) Requirement
1. Familiarity with the design, maintenance or inspection of various types of light rail vehicles or locomotives and knowledge of their capabilities and limitations;
2. Inspection of various types of rail cars, as well as railroad safety appliances and power brakes;
3. Possess general knowledge in railroad safety rules and activities;
4. Use critical observation skills to inspect and investigate grade crossings, equipment, facilities, programs, records or operations of railroad companies;
5. Use analytical skills to identify factors affecting or contributing to issues of noncompliance, to recognize trends and forecast anticipated problems, hazards, and issues that have not yet surfaced, and to determine what safety improvements can be made at the location;
6. Information regarding technical, regulatory, and policy development related to the railroad safety;
7. Present inspections, investigations, conclusions and recommendations in writing in a clear, concise, and organized manner; and
8. Use computer software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Access to collect information and compose reports.

Provides services during 2nd and 3rd shifts during the week (Monday through Friday) and some weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
2. Utilizes strong technical background, including analytical and communication skills, in applying railroad safety standards pertaining to motive power and equipment.
3. Conducts inspections pertaining to power brake systems, locomotives, railroad cars, and its related mechanical and electrical components.
4. Improves and advances railroad safety in areas related to design, construction, inspection, maintenance and use of railroad stock and related appurtenances.
