Job Description: Scientist - R&D –Technology Platforms Preservation and Fermentation
The individual will support the Technology Platforms Team working from the Glenview R&D facility. This position offers the candidate an excellent opportunity to lead innovative and disruptive ingredient technology platforms that will be instrumental in delivering new product platform development initiatives across the company product categories, and or evolve the current core brands to new business opportunities while creating competitive advantage across the global companybusinesses.
The candidates will support technical platforms and lead different ingredient technology development work stream initiatives for preservation technologies. The candidate should be able to be able to define the technical problems that will need solutions, and develop research pathways to allow for solving the problems. Candidate will be responsible to, deep dive into the research pathways, demonstrate proof of concept, and validate technology in model systems and applications
This individual must have a proven strong technical background, leadership, intellectual curiosity, problem solving and project management skills. The candidate will have also cross-functional team interaction with the scientific community/ecosystem outside of company, the internal marketing, Business Units R&D, procurement, finance, operations, quality, regulatory and manufacturing. He or she will progress internal research initiatives, while supporting research collaboration programs with external ecosystem.
Responsibilities:
• The individual will identify, scope, design and develop research pathways for preservation technology to support different KHC product categories renovations and innovations initiatives
• Design and execute experimental plans, including screening ingredients into different KHC model systems and test them for antimicrobial efficacy. Apply learnings to drive product renovation and /or innovation.
• Possess strong technical functional skills that will allow understanding ingredient functionality and process interaction in various food matrixes.
• The candidate should lead all experiments independently.
• Be able to embrace all aspects of ingredient technology development including the fuzzy front end, ideation, design, development and commercialization.
• The candidate will need to also understand fundamentally other product technologies associated with applications.
• Establish solid project research plans, conduct appropriate testing, gather and analyze data, develop recommendation and assess risk based on finding
• Conduct bench top, pilot plant and plant trials to explore, optimize formulation and processes.
• Build connections to research partners such as universities, research centers, consultants
Requirements
• B.S./M.S./PhD in Microbiology, Food Science, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related fields
• 2-7 years of experience in Technology/R&D food product or related fields (which can include academic research and internships)
• Strong applied microbiology skills. Fermentation skills area plus.
• Strong ingredient and ingredient application development skills.
• Strong out of the box thinker on solving technical problems
• Demonstrated record of conducting research development projects either individually and or in collaboration with other teams
• Demonstrated executional excellence in technology scale up and commercialization experiences
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage complexity
• Demonstrate ability to deal with ambiguity
• Possess technical /intellectual curiosity, understand how technology can be insulated
• Ability to manage projects with a high degree of autonomy
