Knowledge, skills, education, and/or experience
A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree,
At least 1 year of experience in the field of veterinary medicine
Master of Public Health Degree (MPH) in epidemiology or similar course of study.
It is recommended that the successful candidate will have one or more years of supervisory experience.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • The Veterinary Pathologist will supervise the Veterinary Public Health Unit which is responsible for: Oversight of dog licensing throughout the State
  • Provides animal rabies vaccine for State-sponsored-free Rabies Vaccination Clinics
  • Serves as a resource for municipal and county Health Departments with concerns/complaints about animal facilities (kennels, pet shops, pounds and shelters)
  • Receives animal facility complaints and provides guidance to local Health Departments to investigate and abate the complaints
  • Oversight of municipal animal control officers, including investigating malfeasance and revoking animal control certification, if legally warranted
  • Mobilization during emergencies under the Emergency Support Function ESF 8 Public Health and Medical Services which include assisting with temporary housing of dogs and other domestic animals owned by residents who have evacuated for their homes.
